I love custard with everything, so I buy this frequently. I haven't tried a great deal of other brands of custard, but this is gorgeous so I wouldn't need to replace it... I'm doubting that anything else CAN! ~~~PACKAGING~~~ The custard is simply put into a tin can, with a paper wrapper around detailing what it is etc. It has a ...  Read the complete review

Please be assured that this custard is more than fantastic. It is in a class of its own and can even be compared with some of the better home-made custards. There is no-need to go and spend lots of money on theserefrigerated store bought custards if you are going to be having the custard for a special occasion. This custard ...  Read the complete review

When it comes to custard, for me it's a no brainer and I always go straight for the 'Amrbosia custard', I eat it plane or on hot puddings, crumbles and pies and I don't mind anyway as long as it is only this make! What is it? It is a tin or custard, it is not the instant stuff wher you have to add water, but is 'pre-made' in a ...  Read the complete review

Ambrosia Devon custard has to be the best pre-made custard available to buy, its so thick, so creamy and so rich in taste that its just the perfect custard for any occasion, eaten cold, or warm it still tastes great and you cant beat this stuff. The custard itself comes in tins, however iv also seen this in kind of milk carton packets ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on Ambrosia Devon Custard
by Custardeater - written on 05/10/09

Sorry to inject a note of dissent - I usually love Ambrosia tinned custard but the last batch we had (pack of three from Tesco) was disgusting. Runny and not creamy at all. I can only think this was from a bad batch and have written to Premier Foods asking them for advice. You certainly couldn't have put it on top of a trifle! I sincerely hope they have not changed the consistency as I will have to try another brand.

Premium Review Ambrosia Devon Custard vs Birds Instant Custard (344 words)

The battle of the custards! Ambrosia Devon custard is smooth and creamy, with a pleasant vanilla taste, but can be a little over sweetened. It is very easy and quick to prepare in the microwave taking only 2 1/2 minutes, and you can heat it on the hob if you prefer. In the past, we have always used Bird's instant custard - ...  Read the complete review

I can't stand dry food. Even puddings, they have to be moisturised in some way and this leaves three choices, ice cream, cream or custard. I have always so far in life made my own custard and this has so far been successful. It has always tasted good so I have had no need to buy the tinned stuff. This changed when I was cooking for a big group of ...  Read the complete review

I don't mind cheap Custard. It can be pretty nice tasting if a little runny, but this is the brand name in Custard and this wins the best Custard award in my view. This is made by Ambrosia and costs about 80p for a can of it. You can get this in little pots, cardboard containers and such, but I normally plump for the can of it. Perhaps ...  Read the complete review

I never usually buy name brand products but I made a apple and blackberry crumble the other week and forgot to buy custard. The only one they had at my local Plymco was this one and I bought 150g pots for £1 although you can buy them in tins for around 85p. The custard is rather thick and sticks to the spoon when you put it into the ...  Read the complete review

While shopping at the weekend I thought it was about time I started getting my son's food box ready for University, as he is off in a couple of weeks ( sob sob!). Well I thought I'd start with some comfort food today, not knowing who he is sharing with yet I thought just get somethings that he can keep in his room without a fridge. I absolutely love and adore custard! However I don't like home-made offerings since I've been old enough to decide not to partake in it anymore! The whole reason behind this is because growing up my Mother made the most revolting thick and lumpy custard ever and for years I wouldn't touch it unless forced (and I was every Sunday!). However nowadays ...  Read the complete review

Sometimes my cooking skills are a little lacking and custard is one of these areas so I usually just cheat and Ambrosia Devon Custard in a can is the one that I purchase for 77p per 425g can I think it's worth buying as it keeps the man in my life happy when I've slogged away with a homemade pudding and he doesn't want to eat it alone (wise ...  Read the complete review

Ambrosia is one of the countries most well known brand names, and there's a reason why. They make THE best custard. I'm not a huge fan of custard, but when I bought a chocolate sponge pudding recently (see my review, the thing was vile!), I wanted custard to go with it as that's always how I ate it when I was little. With most food I'm not fussy about brands, however I've found the only brand of custard I can stomach is Ambrosia Devon custard, as it's thicker ...  Read the complete review

I am a huge fan of custard. Sometimes I just have a bowl of it by itself for dessert. I am inherently lazy and so when I realised you could buy custard ready made to perfection in a tin rather than having to make it up form powder that could sometimes go magnificently wrong, I was sold. We now always have a tin of Ambrosia Custard in the ...  Read the complete review

When I was younger the only custard we ever had was a tin of the yellow powder that was Birds Custard Powder. This was lovely but never came out the same way twice, it was mostly either ridiculously watery or thick enough to stand on and there were also many occasions were the milk burnt onto the pot and you either spent a long time scrubbing or ...  Read the complete review

Yes, hands up, I am a yoghurt fan, but now and again I do enjoy the odd serving of custard - there's something special about it you do not get from yoghurt! When I do eat it, I usually go for Ambrosia. Ambrosia custard, unlike other none leading brands, is a bright yellowy shade, shocking in fact! You can eat this either hot or cold. ...  Read the complete review

Ambrosia Devon Custard This is a really nice thick and creamy custard from Ambrosia. They have been making prducts since 1917 so they are a name you can trust. Ambrosia products generally come tinned and in the form of desserts, another great example is Ambrosia Creamed Rice. The custard most commonly comes in a 425g tin with ...  Read the complete review
