“ Manufacturer: Amoy / Type: Sauce „
I eat stir fries quite regularly but found myself getting really bored with the usual hoi sin, sweet chilli, or thai stir fry sauces I always bought.
I saw this on my weekly visit to the supermarket and decided to try it for a bit of a change.
The sauce comes in a small plastic packet, which contains 120g of the product. The packet is black, with the Amoy logo and a picture of a meal that's been cooked using the sauce.
I usually fry up a chicken breast in the wok, add carrots, water chestnuts, beansprouts and any other fresh veggies I can chop up, throw in some rice or egg noodles, and then finally this sauce.
It coats the other ingredients quickly and the minute you pour it into the wok, you can see that it is full of chunky bits of peanut. The sauce is a rich brown; thick and substantial, not watery like some stir fry sauces can be. When it hits the heat of the wok, it releases an aroma that makes your mouth water. It contains coconut milk and red chilli, and smells spicy and fantastic.
The taste is peanutty with a slight chilli kick. I'm not a huge fan of spicy foods so this is just spicy enough for me. I think spice lovers would still love it too, although maybe they wouldn't find it spicy enough.
The sauce tastes amazing with chicken, with the succulent chicken breast complimenting the nutty taste well. Yum. I have never tried this sauce with beef but never say never.
I find that the 120g packet is maybe slightly too little for 2 people - but that might be because it's so nice that we want more of it. (Or we could just be incredibly greedy).
Unfortunately in the last few weeks I haven't seen this sauce anywhere in my local supermarket - I am officially on the hunt for it!
