Advantages: Taste great, easy to make
Disadvantages: Flavourings, sweeteners, etc, too much is sickly
Angel Delight has been around for a few years now, and is one of those puddings that are perfect every now and then. The concept is quite simple: a 47g sachet of powder that you add milk to and then whisk up to make a mousse, leave to set, and then devour. The tagline is 'Instant dessert for little angels!'
It couldn't be simpler to make, so long as you follow the instructions. Pour 75ml (recommended) of milk into a bowl, add the sachet's contents and whisk until it's light and creamy. I find that you often get lumps, no matter how you stir it.
Okay, so onto the taste. Angel delight comes in a variety of flavours, although I have only ever had 3: Butterscotch (favourite!), chocolate and strawberry. Each of them has quite a creamy and sweet taste to it, although the product now has no extra added sugar, whereas beforehand there was sugar added to it. The butterscotch one in particular tastes gorgeous. All flavours are quite rich, which is good, but it does mean that too much is quite sickly. I can, however, devour one of these far too easily!
Nutritionally, they're not too bad, considering they're a sweet dessert. Flavours do vary slightly, but they'll give you roughly 90 calories per serving. There are flavourings and sweeteners, so beware if you have kids sensitive to being hyperactive. These ingredients may not be ideal.
It's quite a flexible dessert, too. I tend to have it just as it is, but you can use it mixed with other things to give a more versatile option for kids, perhaps by sprinking things over it or mixing it with jelly and fruit to make a trifle, using this instead of custard.
It's a lovely dessert, with the taste and ease of making it being the two biggest draws for me. I'd recommend this version as much as any other. tesco, for example, do their own brand, which is just as nice, and virtually the same in price, so there's hardly any comparison. This brand or the other are equally as good. However, Tesco Value Strawberry Flavour Dessert, which is essentially the same as Angel Delight, is much more artificial with less flavour. I still think it's alright, but it's not a patch on Angel Delight.
Typically, Angel Delight costs around the 35p/40p mark. Often, you can get a 3 for £1 offer, or they might cost a little less, but generally, the price mark comes in very similar to other brands of the same thing. A recommended for adults and kids alike.
Summary: Great dessert, and versatile too
