Instant dessert for little angels.
I don't really have much time on my hands these days so a tasty dessert than can be whipped up in under 5 minutes is just up my street. I rediscovered Angel Delight a few weeks ago. We always had this dessert when we were kids but I think I just grew up and forgot about it. That was, until a trip round Sainsburys looking for a quick dessert when I came across these packets again. It also helped that each packet was only 32p, quick easy and cheap, what more can you ask for.
Angel Delight is basically a mousse type dessert. It comes in a packet/sachet and is just a powder. You mix the powder with fresh milk, whisk it up and voila, your dessert is done. Once you have whisked up the mixture it sets very quickly, under five minutes I would say and then it is ready to eat. The end product is a light, fluffy, creamy dessert that is extremely tasty. The mixture is smooth and also has little air bubbles in it which gives it a really nice consistency. There is no need to chill the dessert but I always like to put it in the fridge before I serve it so it is nice and cool. What I really like is that it's quite a healthy dessert too because the main ingredient is fresh milk which is great for calcium. Yes, ok there is sugar in it but a 92 g serving with semi skimmed milk only has 107 calories in it which I think is great.
The sachets come in 59g packets. I would say that a packet serves two people well, if you stretch it to four people it will work but you don't get much in each bowl. If I serve it for four people I add to ice cream as well to pad out the dessert.
Angel Delight comes in four flavours, strawberry, raspberry, butterscotch and chocolate and is a great quick and easy dessert.

- 19/07/09 I always keep packs of it in the cupboard for a quick and instant sweet treat. Compared the supermarket versions too, I find AD is better on flavour and quantity. |
