Advantages: Delicious and easy to make
Disadvantages: none
Recently, when we had a dinner party at my house, my mum put me in charge of desserts and wanting to whip up something that would be quick and leave me with little washing up, yet taste really yummy at the same time, I decided on some chocolate angel delight with cookies and chocolate buttons to decorate.
What is angel delight?
Angel delight is a dessert mix that, when whipped with milk, becomes mousse-like in texture. A range of flavours are available including chocolate, strawberry and butterscotch. The chocolate flavour I used in my dessert was delicious as is the butterscotch flavour which I have also tried previously.
How do you make it?
This dessert is really easy to make and would be perfect to make with children as all you need is the dessert mix and 300ml (1/2 pint) of chilled milk. The milk can be either whole fat or semi-skimmed depending on how healthy you want the end dessert to be. You add the milk to the dessert mix in a bowl and whisk for approximately five minutes until it has become thick and fluffy. I used an electric whisk to make the process even easier though a hand whisk can also be used. And voila, your mousse is ready!! You can either eat it by itself or there are many different ways you can use it to make a variety of desserts. Examples from the back of the packet include pouring over a banana and sprinkling with chocolates for a banana split inspired dessert or making a fruit cocktail with the fruit suspended in the mousse. I liked my version with cookies covered in mousse with a sprinkling of chocolate buttons.
Nutritional information?
This dessert is quite healthy with a 94g serving made with semi-skimmed milk containing 113 calories and 4.3g of fat (there are 4 servings per packet).
My opinion?
This dessert is exactly what I wanted it to be: quick, easy to make and delicious. I think this would be ideal to make with children as they would enjoy making, decorating and eating it. Also, if you have guests coming and are rushed for time, this is perfect to make and you can choose the style of serving to suit the people you have coming over.
Summary: A quick and yummy dessert
