Let me take you through a cookery lesson. I work with special needs kids and while sorting out the food tech store cupboard came across some Angel delight and we decided it would be a delight to make it with the kids. Birds Angel delight comes in standard or no added sugar packs the one in my school food store was a standard one. Angel delight comes in various flavours, strawberry, raspberry, butterscotch, chocolate, and banana. There might be others not sure. The flavours come in pkts weighing between 47 and 67 grams depending on the flavour. At tesco priced between 45 and 49p per packet. The one I found was strawberry, so come into our cookery lesson another and myself adult with 5 children I shall give these children fictitional names. First two children in wheel chairs are pushed into the room and positioned so they can reach the table. Then 3 others walk in and eventually sit at the table all children have hands washed before preparing foods. The teacher tells the children we are going to make angel delight. We are going to make this as a joint endeavour each child helping. The children each hold and feel the unopened packet Jane throws it on the floor Adam tries to eat the packet. Next I help John to open the packet. The packet opened Susan helps me to pour some into a bowl then Billy empties the rest of the packet with a little supervision. I take the bowl to children and let them see and smell the strawberry Angel delight it has a distinctive strawberry smell. I have to hold the bowl tight as John has involuntary movements and might knock the bowl on the floor Adam does actually try to throw the bowl on the floor. Then we get the milk out of the fridge Billy helps measure half a pint of milk into a jug, I trust him to get it into the jug more than the others. All the children are shown the milk, which Susan helps me pour into another bowl. Then I assist Adam to spoon some instant w
hip into the bowl of milk then holding his hand with a whisk in it we whisk the whip. This we do with each child giving more support to some than others. Billy being the most able and reliable mixes it on his own, Jane somehow manages to get it all over my arm I am holding her hand on the whisk she keeps trying to push the bowl over. I give it a final whisk to make sure it is completely mixed in. Each child was then helped to spoon pour it into individual bowls. We then put the bowls to one side while we cleared the tables got some spoons out for the children and put the bowls in the fridge About 5 –6 mns later the little angels could eat the pudding they had made, thier faces were a delight. pink strawberrydelight :-) I think left the angel delight a little longer 10-15 mins would have made it much thicker but after 5 mins it was alright Making this was good with the children they could see to changes from powder and liquid to a thick pudding. They practiced mixing and stirring using a spoon. The children all enjoyed the strawberry instant whip personally I find it a little sweet. This dessert contains no colours or preservatives the colour must be a natural colouring, just as well a couple of our kids go bonkers when given artificial colourings. There are about 200 cals in a bag of powder add this to the cals of the milk you use. Many supermarkets sell instant deserts like this as an own brand a lot cheaper and nearly if not as good. I think these deserts are a way of getting some calcium into your child I wonder what they are like with Soya milk for dairy intolerant kids? just read packet it contains dairy in the powder so thats no good . Angel delight can be used for making trifles or even ice-lollies, great with a banana added or strawberries . Angel delight is made by Kraft who have a website full of recipes www.Kraftfood.co. Uk Thanks for reading hope you fo
und it Delightfull. I JUST HAD TO POST THIS OPP QUICK AS I RECIEVED NOTIFICATION FROM DOOYOO THAT THEY HAD ADDED IT AFTER I REQUESTED IT ABOUT A MONTH AGO .
