Asda Brussels Pate
Advantages: Very tasty and very cheap!
Disadvantages: A bit fatty...
Well, I really love pate of all varieties. Think it takes me back to my childhood and memories of sitting with my cousins at the breakfast bar while our grandad brought us piles of warm buttered toast with liver sausage! So the first taste I have of any pate on toast brings back happy times, sunday afternoons playing armies in the backgarden then in for tea and 'Supergran' on TV! Ahh...those were the days!
So I've loved pate from an early age and it's still one of my all time favourite foods! Hubby is also a big fan as are our two daughters - espeically the eldest who is 3. So pate frequently features on our weekly shopping list!
We generally do our main shop in Asda so it's no surprise that we've been regular eaters of Asda 'Brussels Pate' for some time now. So what do we like?? The pate has a nice flavour, not too over powering - just slightly meaty and over all savoury. The pate is smooth so it spreads well on toast without ripping the bread! The tub also has a recloseable lid which is great as nobody likes that dry brown/pink crust that seems to form on pate if the air hits it for more than about 10 minutes!! It also costs a creditcrunch-busting 55p per tub (175g) which is great!
And what's not so good? As with all pate's, this is quite fatty and has a fair bit of salt in it but then again, you don't need a huge amount (although I do love a good thick spreading on my toast!) so it's not so bad in reality. However, the figures are...
21.5g fat/100g (of which saturated 8.6g)
If you are being particularly health conscious, you might like to try the Asda 'Good For You Brussels Pate' which has 25% less fat than the standard one - it's 5p cheaper and tastes much the same! Or for a bit of a change there's also Asda 'Brussels and Garlic' pate which is equally yummy!
We all love pate especially on toast or in a sandwich or even with some oatcakes or other crackers - yum, yum, yum!
Summary: A great value pate that the whole family will love!
