Advantages: A very tasty treat

Disadvantages: calorific

I spotted these tarts yesterday when I was in my local Asda, and I fancied something different so i bought the 2 pack as I've never tried these ones and there's just the 2 of us. They cost 59p for this pack, they are also available in a four pack (as shown in the picture above) or in one larger tart, I think this would be messy though, you need the pastry all around to keep the filling in.

***The Packaging***

The pack is a yellow card board box with a clear plastic window on the top, so you can see the product. There is a picture of the product on the side of the box, which does took very yummy and tempting, beside the picture is the description " Rich shortcrust pastry filled with creamy egg custard and sprinkled with nutmeg". Inside the box is a thin plastic holder with the 2 tarts in individual silver foil dishes.

***The Product***

The tart looks very tasty, the pastry is golden brown and the egg custard is shiny in a rich, creamy yellowy colour with the nutmeg sprinkled over it. I removed the tart from the foil dish and put it on a plate to minimize on the crumbly mess. I cut the tart in 2 and it just fell away it was so soft. As I bit into it, the custard filling is cold and softer than jelly. The Nutmeg looks a little amount but adds plenty of flavour to the filling. The pastry is crumbly and not too sweet.

***The Facts***

Each tart contains
223 kcals
11.7g fat
11.6g sugars

Contains gluten, milk, wheat and egg. May contain traces of nuts and/or seeds. Suitable for vegetarians.

***My Opinion***

These tarts are delicious. Although the filling is firm enough yet it is very soft but not too soft. The nutmeg is a dominant flavour here. The filling is quite sweet, but not sickly. The pastry is quite a rich, and so you could not eat more than 1 at a time. It is very filling, but a nice once in a while treat. The Nutmeg on top can be rather off putting, when I gave a piece to my daughter, she took one look and turned her nose up, she thought there was pepper on her cake and was reluctant to try it. I cut the top off and she enjoyed it too. I prefer to take it out the fridge a while before eating it as the filling can be rather cold.

Summary: It tastes better than it looks or sounds

The boxes of 4 are reasonably priced too at less than a pound, but as we are a family of 5 someone (usually me) misses out on one! Grrrr.
