Advantages: A gorgeous thick and creamy yoghurt

Disadvantages: High in calories

The Lemon Curd flavoured yoghurt is from Asda`s own label Extra Special Range so when I bought it I was hoping to taste something Extra special.
Most supermarkets seem to adopt a premium range these days and with the massive price hikes reflected in our weekly shopping bills no-one would like to think that they were going to pay more for a run of the mill product.

The Extra Special range yoghurt's are packaged differently for a start, no plastic carton for this premium dessert. A thick circular cardboard tub with zesty lemon halves adorning it, on the plastic pull back lid it tells you that the yoghurt has come from the West Country and also that it is Extra Special.

So further information tell us that the finest milk from the West Country has been used to produce this yoghurt. The 150g tub is filled with thick, fresh, sharp and tangy Lemon yoghurt.
That the product has been produced in the UK.
Any vegetarians can enjoy this dessert, though it contains eggs, milk and it may contain nuts.
The yoghurt is free from any colourings or artificial flavourings.
Once you have unpacked it you must keep the yoghurt refrigerated and it isn't suitable for freezing.
So much information on a tub!
The Asda traffic light system tell me that the yoghurt is packed with sugar, low in salt, has a medium amount of fats but has 232 calories per pot, so compared to Tesco Healthy living yoghurt with 53 calories a 100 g pot or even 100g of Sainsburys normal yoghurt at 82 calories a pot it has to be a once in a while treat.

The light plastic film lid pulls back easily to reveal the palest of lemon yoghurt with a consistency of clotted cream. Lemon zest aroma pours out of the tub by the gallon and the whole tasting process takes on a different light.
I have a good peer into the tub to see if there are any signs of `raw lemon`, peel or pith, seeds or shreds, but the pale cream is pure. 13% of the ingredients are composed of whipping cream which is going to give it an extra creamy appearance and though it is described as having added lemon peel they must have just used a very fine grater.
I wonder how they have managed to contain such a strong smell of lemon, but after seeing that the yoghurt has concentrated lemon juice and 20% lemon curd it is easily understandable.

As I eagerly dig my teaspoon into the thick yoghurt the texture is the outstandingly thing, the spoon would stand up on its own it is so thick.
There's no need to tap the excess from the spoon as the yoghurt firmly stays put. As the lemon dessert hits the taste buds their is an explosion of citrus, I woggle the yoghurt around to see if there are any `bits` but nothing, just thick tangy cream.
Absolutely exquisite, very much a `grown ups` pudding though.
A few minutes later im staring at an empty tub that is ready for the recycling bin.
This yoghurt could be served with fresh fruit, if you were having anyone around to supper you would be able to spoon the yoghurt out of the tub and put it into a dessert glass and serve it with those scrummy Langue De Chat biscuits that they sell in Waitrose or the House of Fraser food halls. ( They are like the Barmouth biscuits used to be, only they have stopped making Barmouth biscuits now )

This was my first experience of an Adsa Extra Special yoghurt and I wasn't left feeling disappointed...just keen to try another from the range.
There is a Devon Fudge one which does sound a bit too sweet for my liking, a strawberry and cream which sounds fresh and summery and one that intrigues me greatly, the Rhubarb and Champagne, this would have that certain acidity too and im sure that was what clinched the deal the first time around.
One thing to add to my shopping list.

Summary: A thick and creamy yoghurt for a special occasion
