Advantages: Delicious, summery, smooth and full of lemon flavour
Disadvantages: Expensive and very high in calories
In Asda recently I was a little annoyed to find that as they had their Muller yogurts on special offer there were none left, I like a substantial yogurt and find the small pots of thin supermarket yogurt just don't have the same appeal. I started browsing their Extra Special range as I've been impressed with these yogurts in the past and immediately spotted this Lemon Curd variety which jumped straight into my basket as I love the flavour of lemon curd.
The tub is nice, it's made of a stiff card with an easily removed foil lid. The tub makes eating this yogurt seem much more decadent than munching out of a basic plastic Ski pot!
The yogurt smells intensely lemony with a sweetness which made my mouth water before I'd even dug the spoon in. It looked to be a smooth yogurt whereas I'd been expecting small pieces of lemon and perhaps some zest, this is not a problem though as I like smooth and bitty yogurts equally.
I honestly think this is one of the best yogurts I've ever eaten. The yogurt is thick enough to stand my spoon up in and a lovely pale lemon colour which looks very spring-like. The taste is superb, it's strongly flavoured with lemon curd and this is sweet and very natural tasting as if the plain yogurt has simply been stirred in with some top quality lemon curd. I love the summery flavour, it's light and refreshing with a delicious cool, creamy texture which kept me digging in with my spoon even before I'd swallowed the original mouthful.
There are two downsides to this yogurt which will prevent me from buying it very often, however delicious it is. The first is this yogurt contains a huge 250 calories in the 150g pot, which is extremely high for a yogurt especially considering I eat one or two yogurts every day for breakfast and pudding. The second is that this yogurt has the absolutely ridiculous price tag of 64p a pot which is rather overpriced as even though this is the Extra Special range, this is basically still a supermarket own brand product. Again, I eat so many yogurts over the week that this would work out much too expensive for me to add them regularly to my shopping bill.
Summary: A wonderful yogurt but with two major disadvantages.
