... cannot re-freeze, so we tend to eat this as a dessert for about 4-5 days afterwards. I don't have too much of a sweet tooth, but hubby makes up for it in his portions! The base of this is a kind of sponge base. It isn't that thick a base, but thick enough. It is like there is some biscuit to this as well, and i'm not being harsh, but this is the boring part of the dessert. It is a little moist, but the rest of the dessert is so lovely compared to this. On top of the base there is cream filled Profiterole's and alth...more

Premium Review Asda Extra Special profiterole gateau: GORGEOUS DESSERT (469 words)

We first bought this around Christmas Time. You know how most people tend to splash out on food at Christmas time? I'm the same. It's not that i'm being snobby, and it's not as if I have loads of money around this time of year - usually the opposite, but there's just something about buying something more fancy. This is a dessert from the Asda Extra Special range. This range is the step up from the normal shop lable, and sometimes more expensive than brand named equivelants. This is in the freezer section and costs £4. £4 for a bit cake? Yes, but it weights 1kg, so it is a heavy lump. There are only 2 of us in the house, and once you've defrosted ...  Read the complete review

Oh My God!!! This is GORGEOUS!!!! I bought this gateau to serve for pudding last Christmas. I really love profiteroles (who doesn't?!?) so thought this would go down well with everyone and as it only cost £4 I really couldn't resist! The gateau is basically a sponge base topped with lots and lots of lovely cream filled profiteroles which are held together with a gorgeously chocolatey mousse and topped with chocolate sauce and chocolate curls. There is also more chocolate mousse around the outside of the gateau. The gateau is large and weighs 1kg so should easily feed even a large family - even my greedy lot (6 adults and 1 child) managed to ...  Read the complete review

ASDA Chocolate Profiterola Gateau!! If you love chocolate you will probably like this product. I recently purchased this from ASDA and it cost me 4 pounds. The Gateau itself serves around 12 people and is quite large in size. The cake has a sponge type base which is then covered in chocolate mousse type texture. Within this sits the large cream profiteroles. More mousse is added and chocolate and the wholeoutside of the gateau is then covered in the mousse. I personally thought the cake was a tad sickly for me, however if you are a chocolate lovely I am sure you will like this. I served this cake at a party and it ha d gone ...  Read the complete review
