You cannot improve the humble sausage! (Asda Extra Special Sausages)

Advantages: Thick, meaty, cooked evenly.

Disadvantages: Dry, tough and expensive.

After reading a review for Toad in the hole, (thank you kaitlins mummy), I got an urge!!! An urge to make (yes make!!!), toad in the hole. I decided to vamp it up a bit and plumped for ASDA's Extra special vintage cheddar and caramelised onion flavour sausages. Quite pricey at £2.48 for 6, but they sounded yummy so I slipped them in my basket. A few days later my urge to make Toad in the hole had passed (bought a frozen one from ASDA!), but the sausages were still sitting there.
I decided that sausages with such a grand title needed to be enjoyed on their own, so armed with some freshly baked bread rolls from the local bakers, the sausages were placed on the grill and were soon at the mercy of my hungry tum!

Whilst cooking, the sausages gave off a delicate aroma of onions. Hardly any fat came out of them and the skins didn't split. When cut open, the sausages were firm and meaty. The sausage meat was coarse and the skins cooked cooked evenly.

I cut the sausages in half length ways to put on my sandwich and sat down ready to enjoy. My first bite was really disappointing. The firmness of the meat made the meat really dry and tough to eat. The cheese and caramelised onion were conspicuous by their absence, and if anything the sausages were tasteless rather than enhanced by these additions. Each sausage has 227 cals btw.

I left a couple of the sausages until the next day (the other half likes a cold sausage!!!), but to be honest, by the next day they were like rubber and even our vacuum cleaner of a dog wouldn't entertain them!

I have had a number of different 'extra special' products from ASDA and have really enjoyed them, but as for the humble sausage...I will be sticking with the less special variety from now on!!!

Summary: Leave sausages alone!!!!
