Advantages: tasty, healthier, cheap
Disadvantages: . . .
When I got the taste for something sweet, I decided I fancied a sponge pudding of some sort. Which, I did not know, but that's the beauty f online browsing. Before we went to Asda, I had a look on their website at what they had to offer, and was delighted by the wide range of puddings they had. There was a basic syrup sponge pudding that looked scrumptious, that was definitely what I was in the mood for!
When I got to Asda and headed towards the cakes, I was just about to reach out for the pudding I'd set my heart on, when I noticed the flower-like green and yellow label of the Good For You sign not too far away from it. Before he was another Syrup Sponge Pudding, but one that was so much more healthy! The image on the front looked appetising too, very tempting indeed. Changing my mind in an instant, I opted for the healthier option instead.
When I got home I couldn't wait to try this new-found pudding. Following the instructions on the back of the packaging, I pierced the little film lid and popped it into the microwave for fifty seconds (if you don't have a microwave you can also steam it in a pan for twenty minutes). As it whirled around I could just about smell a sugary sweet aroma, and when I took it out of the microwave and peeled back the lid completely, this scent was like something out of this world! It was so delicious and syrupy sweet. I turned the plastic pot upside down and squeezed gently at the sides to release it onto my plate.
The pudding sat on the plate, luring me to eat. It did look as delicious as portrayed on the plate; a pale sponge with a golden sticky syrup dolloped on the top. With the aroma at its strongest now, I couldn't wait any longer. I spooned up some of the sponge and syrup combination and popped it into my mouth. Wow! The taste and texture both were phenomenal! The sponge was quite soft and moist, with a mild flavour (told this is vanilla though I didn't realise that at the time). The syrup was warm and sticky, with a powerful sweet syrup flavour. I kept eating, and at the end of it, I was left feeling satisfied with a warm lining in my stomach!
Alright, so it's part of the Good For You range, though it's still a sweet treat. I wasn't sure what to expect for this pudding, though after a closer look at the nutrition, I wasn't too disappointed. Each 100g pudding contains 182 calories, 19.8g sugars, and 3.9g fat. That may not be exceptionally great, but compared to others its quite good. It's also free of artificial colours, flavours, and hydrogenated fats.
*WARNING*; each serving contains gluten, milk and wheat. It may also include traces of nuts and seeds.
The pudding can be stored in your cupboard, and in the event that you happen to forget about it, as it gets hidden away in the back, you do have quite a while to eat it! From the date of purchase, my pudding was not due to expire for another nine months. Of course, it's incredibly difficult to keep it for that long!
This little pudding wont set you back too much either, costing just 48p. However, it's incredible taste leaves you wanting more, and it will take a lot for you to prevent yourself from out-stocking Asda!
This is quite a practical little dessert compared to others. Its simple to cook and easy to use, unlike the family sized tins that need to be served up after struggling to open it with a tin opener! It provides a quick and tasty snack or pudding, and can be enjoyed by all.
This is a tasty little treat and definitely worth a try. It's most definitely one of the better syrup sponge puddings I've tried, and healthier too! Now I've tried it, there's no going back.
