Disadvantages: Me covering it in Sugar

Asda Smart Price Grapefruit pieces

At 39p for a rather large 540g tin it costs less than buying a couple of actual grapefruits and will store in my cupboard for much longer, was my reasoning as I dropped this can in my trolley.
I'm not on a diet or anything just making a bit of an effort to eat less crap and more good stuff at the moment. Grapefruit probably isn't the best fruit to choose as I always end up smothering it in sugar which somewhat defeats the purpose of eating 'something healthier' but it's a fruit I like to eat now and then nonetheless.

Taste...

Well it's grapefruit in light syrup so I was wondering if it might be sweet enough to eat 'as is' one mouthful told me otherwise. Grapefruit is bitter there's no two ways about it but this tinned grapefruit does have a pleasant slight sweetness to it when you first taste....untill the tangy bitterness kicked in that is then it had me reaching for the sugar.
A couple of heaped spoons of sweetness later it tastes as it should, like grapefruit with a heap 'o' sugar on.
Found a few pips which is only to be expected - hell you wouldn't complain if you bought a grapefruit and it had pips in it. There were some 'stringy bits' as I call them, you know the chewy yukky bits 'pith'? that were fished out uneaten, but on the whole nice segments of grapefruit some whole and some broken all good.

All things Considered...

For 39p you can't go wrong really it's a handy tin to have lurking in your cupboard for when you fancy some grapefruit, as it's in a tin it will last much longer than fresh fruit. Once opened it needs going in a 'non-metallic' container in the fridge and you've got 3 days to eat it all.
Good size tin, easily enough for 2 generous servings or 3 smaller portions. Can be found on the Asda website if you feel the need to online-shop. Same price and looks like the dooyoo picture but doesn't have the 'smart price' labelling like the tin I bought which is plain white/green with a small picture of a grapefruit....So I guess it's 'smart price' in disguise now.

Ingredients are simple: Grapefruit pieces, Water, Sugar.
Nutritional content: (per 1/3 of tin) Protein:0.9g, Carbohydrate:28.8g, Fibre: 1.1g and only trace amounts of fat and salt/sodium.
Is free from gluten and obviously suitable for vegetarians too.

I'm a fan of most of fruit and veg but I prefer the untinned products, it's the syrup that puts me right off! Great review :-)

One of the only fruits that I don't actually like!
