Advantages: Variation of flavours
Disadvantages: Not as good as the bassetts
I'm really not very into these and it's not something I would choose to buy but Andrew wanted some when I did an Asda shop yesterday and I couldn't help myself when he was eating them last night.
What are they?
They are little soft centred sweets that are in the shape of little babies. The outside is a little harder than the inside but still soft enough that I would give one to my little baby. They are basically a replica of the famous Bassetts Jelly babies.
How can you buy them?
They are available from Asda and come in a 100g bag which cost 37p for one or you can take advantage of the long running offer that Asda have on the sweets which is 3 bags for just £1.
Flavours.
There are six flavours and it goes as follows:
The red one and tastes of Strawberry.
The yellow one and tastes of Lemon.
The pink one and tastes of Raspberry.
The green one and tastes of lime.
The purple one and tastes of Blackcurrant and
The orange one and tastes of........orange!
The blackcurrant one is my favourite out of them all and I tend to find all of them first. The green one is the worst and I don't think it even tastes like Lime. I think it has a kind of muddy taste to it which is often the case with most of the green sweets in most products.
Texture and taste
There are two ways you can eat Jelly babies. Firstly you can torture them by biting off their little heads, feet and arms or you can do the equivalent of shooting them in the heart and pop it all in your gob and chew!
Once you get chewing you will find that the flavours are fairly vibrant and I can almost always guess which colour I have got (I know this because I played that game with my hubby). To be honest they are easy to eat and they don't get stuck in your teeth or anything. The only thing that puts me off them even more is the white powder that they are covered in. It's the same white powder that covers Turkish Delight and I'm not much keen on that either. They are a lot smaller than the Bassetts version and you can definitely tell the difference because the flavours aren't as full.
Verdict
I find these very sickly and they really are a sweet that I can only eat a few of. I find that I get a headache if I ate too many. I think I can safely say that I wouldn't purchase these myself and they are not worth the 15 calories per sweet that I was consuming.
Summary: If you like jelly babies then you will be sure to like these!
