Advantages: Cooks in 5 minutes

Disadvantages: Can't find it in my local store anymore!!!

ASDA Penne pasta quills - Quick Cook does exactly what it says on the packet. It cooks in 3 - 5 minutes not the normal 10 - 12 minutes it takes to cook pasta. Though I am sure my normal pasta took longer than 12 minutes to cook or maybe I cooked it on a much lower heat. Anyway, I loved this product. Yes I am talking past tense "loved" my local ASDA store does not stock this any more!!! Only Brought this the once and then in my next weekly shopping trip it was not there anymore I looked all over the pasta aisle just could not find it. I think ASDA are nuts why get rid of a product like that when their shelves are already bombard with normal pasta. So yeah, I never saw this product again, except online.

You cook it exactly the same as any other pasta. You place the pasta into a large pan of slightly salted boiling water. Bring back to the boil and then just simmer uncovered for 3 -5 minutes. Have to admit the time it takes to make normal pasta I was a bit skeptical that it would not cook in 5 minutes. 4 minutes later I could see that it seemed cooked but I left it the whole 5 minutes just incase. It was cooked I could cut through the pasta easily. So I drained it, then I mixed pasta sauce in and warmed through, tasted just like the normal pasta wondered what they put in it to make it cook so quick.

Ingredients include Durum Wheat Semolina, which when I compared to the normal ASDA Penne - quills also included Durum Wheat Semolina (100%) has left me completely baffled. So what was the magic ingredient that made pasta cooked in the same way, cook quickly. I guess we will never know.

Overall it's a good product if you can a get a hold it.

Summary: Pasta in 5 minutes

Strange that Asda would stop stocking it! Perhaps worth an email to Asda! btw I hope your not overcooking pasta, it should have a slight bite to it, rather than be too soft. 5 mins might be too long.

I think the shelf life is the same as normal pasta.

Is its shelf life less than normal pasta?
