ASDA

ASDA is the second largest retailer in the UK behind Tesco. In store you will find thousands of avail able purchases from food to clothing. It is well renowned for its cheap prices after claiming the title of Britain's lowest priced supermarket for 11 years running! ASDA is a good quality supermarket with good value and for people like me (student) with very little income it's very handy if you want to save a few pennies on your weekly shop!

ABOUT THE PRODUCT

ASDA's Profiteroles are the same principle as most others. Small balls of pastry wrapped round delicious whipped cream inside. A £1 these are probably the cheapest around, sustaining ASDA's low priced theme. Each of these 235g boxes comes with 15 profiteroles inside and a couple of sachets of dark chocolate sauce. This is plenty to provide for three or maybe four servings. However, if you are like me you may not be as inclined to announce that you have bought this product and keep them for yourself!

This dessert is one best served cold. Personally I like to heat up the chocolate sauce for a few minutes by placing the sachets in boiling water and then pouring them over the profiteroles, ready to serve. This product is freezable so you can keep it hidden away to serve up for whenever you like. They do take a while to defrost though, so I would recommend you take them from the freezer and put them in the fridge the day before you wish to eat them. That way they are still chilled for when you come to eating them. They are suitable for vegetarians as distinguished with the universal 'V' marked on the front of the box. However, this product does contain gluten so unfortunately are not suitable for those with allergies. All the nutritional information can be found on the packaging and with only 3.7g of fat per profiterole, you can enjoy this dessert without feeling the need to jump on the treadmill straight after.

THE TASTE

First impressions when biting in to one of these cream-filled profiteroles is the extremely light texture of the delicious cream as it pours on to your tongue. It's very soft and goes down well with the choux pastry which itself even tastes quite sweet. You immediately realise that the cheap price of this product is not a reflection on the quality as they quite amply satisfied my taste buds. The contrast between the warm rich chocolaty sauce and the cooled whipped cream is a treat. They are definitely a good match for this dessert. The sauce in itself is both a sweet and bitter taste and very soothing to swallow. The best part of this dessert for me is the last few profiteroles left at the bottom of your bowl soaked in a thick layer of the chocolate sauce. This is a great dessert to follow up a nice hot meal. My advice is to serve three or four profiteroles in a dish that have been nicely defrosted but still chilled. Place a sachet of the chocolate sauce (unopened) in a pan of hot water to heat up for a few minutes then cut open the sachet and trickle the sauce over each profiterole and they are ready to eat.

WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT?

I can safely say I will definitely be after this tasty bargain again soon. It is a great way to finish a meal and could not be easier to prepare. At the minute price of £1 this product is a great buy and one of many bargains to be found at ASDA. So if you are after a quick and easy treat and you don't want to empty your wallet then here is your answer.

Summary: Great dessert for a great value.
