12 for a pound... no brainer!

      Asda Mince Pies

I love mince pies, but they have to be just right. On a recent shopping tri p to Asda I noticed these Mince Pies made with rich, fruity mincemeat and I started salivating. A pack of 6 was priced at £1.00 and a pack of 12 was priced at £1.00..... it was a no brainer really, particularly as I knew that they would get eaten well before their best before date of 11 Jan 2010 (I bought them on 10 December so a good month there to eat them in at their best).

The red coloured cardboard packaging shows a picture of a mince pie with a dollop of cream on the top, broken open to show the filling on the inside. Man, these look good.

The pies them selves are packaged in trays of 6 with a plastic protector between the two layers to prevent squashing.

The light pastry is perfectly baked. The filling is ample, not quite as deep and luxurious as the packaging shows but tasty and well sweetened and the candied peel has a great texture (which sometimes I find too tough).

Each Mince Pie is 219 calories which is a lot for some a small treat, but they are not all year round so its okay for me!!
