Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Slightly more diluted than other brands
As I was doing a few reads and rates this morning, I noticed that Fiver29 had reviewed this and it reminded me that I had one sat out by the kettle to make up with Noah. I usually have a few in the cupboard because Noah likes making them up and we all like eating them so it's the perfect opportunity for me to tell you all about them!
This particular flavour is Strawberry but you can get them in a couple of other flavours. I can't tell you what these are because we usually stick to this one because it's the nicest in my opinion. It costs around 7p which is such a bargain considering this can be our dessert for two nights running.
The jelly is the same as most in that it's divided into cubes which are a bright red. To make up the jelly you need to pull the cubes apart and throw them in a jug which is a fun part that Noah enjoys. Once this is done then you add a half pint of boiling water and stir until the cubes are fully dissolved. I find that they do take a while and sometimes I am left with tiny bits at the bottom that don't fully dissolve but this doesn't bother me because it doesn't affect the jelly mixture over all. Finally you need to add half a pint of cool water from the tap and pop it in the fridge.
I like to add fruit to my jellies because it spices up anything and it gives the whole thing a bit of texture which is good for the boys to experience.
Surprisingly the jelly 'sets' well and is 'wobbly' and not watery by the time the two hours are up. This is definitely a sign of a good jelly and I find that the Tesco one can be a bit 'hit or miss' when it comes to this.
The jelly hasn't got an overly strong taste to it, more like a watered down strawberry flavour. I don't mind this at all and neither do the boys and I can't really complain when I look at how cheap the whole thing is.
I've used this jelly for trifles and fruit jellies and I find that it's good with cream, cold custard (don't make the mistake of pouring hot custard on it because it turns in to a watery mess that tastes vile!) and milk.
This jelly comes highly recommended from me!
Summary: A jelly good jelly!
