 ... got a bit of an oily aftertaste but it's weird because it comes through as a sort of after FEELING. When you flake it into bigger bits it's got a proper meaty texture but if you're a bit rougher you get get it nice and stringy, get it like this and mix with mayo and sweetcorn for a posher version of tuna mayo! If you spend a fortune on John West salmon then I reckon you should give this a try, I've never tried John West but this Asda one is wicked and so much cheaper....more

I brought a tin of this Asda Wild Red Salmon for the first time this week because I don't think I'm eating enough oily fish and am not keen on fresh salmon. I got the small tin because I wasn't sure if I'd like it and that cost £1.18 but it's much better value to get the 213g tin for £1.35. The fish is in one piece in the tin and doesn't fall to bits as you take it out, I wasn't pleased to see bits of skin of the outside of the fish and I had to make sure that was all picked off because fish skin is the nastiest thing in the world! Recently my husband has been able to pop home for lunch which is very nice as I am always pleased to see him but I do struggle to think of new appetising sandwiches or salads for lunch. It is so boring eating the usual ham or cheese roll so I do try to be more inventive. That's where this little red can of fish comes into the scenario. Wild Pacific Salmon - sounds classy. Is it though? It is Asda's own brand and at 98p for a 105gm tin I don't think it is bad value. The tin has a red label with a pcture of a wild pacific salmon on the front.
