Advantages: Tasty and filling - an old favourite!

Disadvantages: None!

I've never really understood what the difference in brands of baked beans is - they all taste the same to me! I even have a friend who will quite happily buy own branded and economy branded everything but if it's a tomato based food e.g. beans, she will only buy Heinz. I've never been able to comprehend this and I would defy anyone to actually tell the difference between the cheap ones and the posh ones.

With this in mind, I can't justify to myself paying 52p on a tin of Heinz beans when I can spend only 29p on the Asda Smart Price ones! So it's the Smart Price ones that come into our house. They can be heated in the microwave but I prefer to be old fashioned and warm them up in a pot on the hob. This avoids any over heating and expolding incidents that I may or may not have experienced in the past...

Once warmed, the tomato sauce thickens slightly and you have a lovely hot, filling and surprisingly healthy meal. You could eat them on their own but we prefer them with something else. Beans on toast is an obvious favourite or including them as part of a cooked breakfast but I think the favourite in our house is probably beans in a baked potato with some grated cheese on top - yum!

It's also worth remembering that baked beans count as one of your veg for your '5 a day' and they have a low GI rating which means they will release energy slowly to keep you filled up for longer. And they're also really tasty!

Summary: Why buy the expensive ones when these are just as good?
