Advantages: tasty and cheap

Disadvantages: none

In my hunt for a bargain, I've tried pretty much everything in the 'supermarket's own' brand offerings, including baked beans. A baked bean seems to be such a simple product, but the results vary massively between supermarket. There's something so 'budget' about baked beans, that you feel a bit like a pauper for even eating them, let alone buying the cheapest ones there are. Nonetheless, if you can get over your mind-set about them, there's a bargain to be had.

For your 29p you get 410 grams of beans. The tin is a normal tin, but the wrapper is all white and depressing (I always think they could make it look nicer for the same price but want to condition people's minds into thinking it's a real bargain because it looks so cheap).

When you open the tin, the beans themselves are a little darker than Heinz, but a good consistency (not too watery or too thick). The beans cook easily, and when heated don't congeal like some other brands. When hot, they taste great - not too hard or too soft: perfect.

Serving suggestions: you can't beat beans on toast for a snack or light meal that gives you some heat (perfect in the winter). They also go really nicely with a baked potatoe.

Warning: I have tried other brands of baked bean, and found Tescos to be terrible: very watery. Morrissons, too, are watery (especially when heated), so stick with Asda's own for a quality you can rely on.

Summary: love it!

If I was to buy these I'd like to know if they are salty which can be a downside to Heinz beans and some supermarket brands.

Nice review, it's nice to be able to find quality food from supermarkets own brands in the old credit crunch
