My mum sometimes does an online shop from Asda and because she likes some of their Smart Price stuff she tried different things each time because they are quite often as good as the brand names and loads cheaper. These chicken breast fillets were a waste of money and she said herself that she'd have been better off spending the £6.00 our butchers wants for the same weight than buying these for £3.00 and I agree with her. You get quite a lot of chicken for your money and all the chicken breasts are big but they are full of water and even when they were defrosting we could see them shrinking as all the water melted out of them and that was before we'd ... I'm not on the "free range" bandwagon and am happy to try the value meat cuts. Some I'll buy again, some I won't, but that's the same across the board, be it a top of the range or mid price item. If I like it then I'll buy it. Asda smart price chicken breast fillets are found in the freezer aisle. Each bag contains 1kilo of breast which have added water, salt, dextrose and stabilisers. Generally a bag costs between £3 - £4.50 depending on what offers are available. I find they normally contain around 6 fillets, a mixture of sizes and shapes but even the smallest is a good size. I defrost over night in the fridge in a sealed container ... Read the complete review

Chicken for the credit crunch is probably the best way I can describe this product. 4 chicken breast pieces for £1.20 sounds like an ultimate bargain....and it is for the price and what you get for the price. Being a full time worker I dont always have time to go home via the supermarket for fresh, free range, organic, killed with a smile on its face food, and often, sad to say, I cant afford to pay the premium price attached to these kinds of fresh produce. Having chicken in the freezer and taking it out the night before/morning before work and placing it in the fridge, means that on returning from work I have chicken there ready to cook. I like ... Asda sells lots of different chicken breasts and you can buy Smartprice chicken breast fillets that come fresh or frozen, I usually buy the frozen ones as then they can just be placed in the freezer and providing I give them a good 12 hours to defrost then they are fine for cooking, this usually means I get them out the evening before I want to cook with them, place them on a plate and just defrost them in the freezer (I wrap mine in cling film to prevent any contamination or juices dripping in to the fridge). The packet is a basic polythene bag which is green & white in appearance and contains a picture of some cooked chicken breasts. These are easy to ... Read the complete review

Batch Cooking features heavily in the Rooster household especially at this time of the year and we have regular days where we are stood in the kitchen preparing curries, bologneses and other creations ready to freeze. Upto recently I would always buy the packaged fresh chicken breasts to go into my curry and spent in the region of £5 to £8 for a pack of 4-6 chicken breasts but noticed these frozen breasts in Asda recently priced at just over £3.00 for a pack containing 5-6 pieces. Found in the packaging pictured above and figuring there was little to lose by trying the frozen alternative I bought a bag and added them to my next curry. Although ... Read the complete review
