Asda smart priced tomatoes come in the usual smart priced packaging of green and white (which is slightly updated to the version in the picture). The packaging is nothing special but then again your not buying it for the packaging but for the contents! Currently they are 35p for a 400g tin and are really good value for money. The tomatoes do have 10g of sugar in them which is quite high and something to remember when cooking if you can't explain why something tastes a little sweet but all tomatoes have this so its not a major concern, well not for me anyway. Recently we have all become more price concious and even more so for staple foods and ... Read the complete review

I use chopped tomatoes quite often in cooking and like most people at the moment I am trying to keep shopping costs to a minimum. A 400g tin is 35p in Asda at present (can go up unannounced quite drastically!), a 400g tin has 84 calories, 10g sugar (high for what it is) and 0.2g of fat. So at least this is low in fat but what with it being cheap it is high in sugar (to give it an extra tang!). This tin does not have a ring pull so you'll need to use a conventional can-opener for this one (anything to keep costs down!). The tomatoes come already chopped so you can just open a can and throw them in with whatever it is you are ... Read the complete review

For anyone on a budget who likes to cook, chopped tomatoes are a bit of a cupboard essential . Great on toast, as part of a cooked breakfast, or as a base for a recipe, they're a cheap, and pretty healthy way to bulk out a meal . For dieters too, they're great, as they are very low in fat and low calorie , and although they do contain what might seem like a large amount of sugar, it is at least natural sugar from the tomato itself rather than processed added sugar . If you're on the weightwatcher diet like me, tinned tomatos have 0 points, and I do use them very often for filling up when I have few or no points left . I tend to buy four or five ... These chopped tomatoes are a 'staple' part of my cooking and always make it into my weekly shop. They cost 35p for a tin and are worth every penny. The tomatoes don't have a ring pull which does annoy some people but my tin opener thanks me every time I buy a tin that needs him to open the top. It also gives my arm a work out so I'm not moaning about it either. The tomatoes sit in a fair amount of juice which I feel is just enough. It's rather annoying when you get more juice than tomatoes but I find it equally annoying if there are too many tomatoes and hardly any juice. The tomatoes are cut quite small which doesn't bother me at all ... Read the complete review

Firstly I should point out that the Asda Smart Price tomatoes do not look like the picture above which I believe is the old packaging for this line, the tins are now green and white and feature a picture of a bowl of tomatoes on them. I bought a can of these for 36p to see whether they would actually be as good as the next brand up which I usually buy and which costs 48p. Its a bit annoying really as im sure only a matter of a year or so ago the ones I usually buy (Asda own brand) were around the 36p mark and the economy ones were a darn sight less. Why have tomatoes become so expensive? Anyway, I get through a lot of these in my house as the basis ... Read the complete review
