Advantages: Refreshing Vanilla and nice and crunchy, cheap

Disadvantages: None!

I don't normally shop in Asda but when I was away for the weekend with my husband it was the only nearby supermarket so we didn't really have much choice. I don't have a problem with buying the supermarkets own version of food and I really like most Tesco Value products and have nothing against Sainsbury's Basics ones either but I have to say that I don't trust Asda Smart Price. This is mainly because I have had a lot of bad experiences buying products from Asda, they normally seem to be gone off or broken but that might just be my local store. So as you can guess I was a little bit dubious about buying Asda Smart Price Custard Creams. I couldn't go the whole weekend without some kind of biscuit, I love them too much and I didn't want to spend to much money in case they were bad quality so I chose these. However I was pleasantly surprised to find that they were actually really good.

These biscuits come in a white packet, the bottom half of the packet is a green bar which has the silhouette of a cup and saucer on it which implies that these would be good to either eat with or dunk into tea or coffee. The rest of the packet is white and has the name of the product in large green writing along with the Asda Smart Price logo. I paid 48p for a 400g packet which is, I think a bargain!

I'm sure that you all know what a custard cream is but just in case there is somebody unfortunate enough to not have tried one I'll describe them for you. Basically they are similar to a Bourbon biscuit in the fact that they are made of 2 layers of biscuit with some cream sandwiched in the middle. These however are more fresh and have a vanilla taste, I don't really know why they are called custard creams seeing as to me anyway they taste of vanilla. They are slightly rectangular, almost square in shape and are a pale yellow colour with a little diamond embossed on the top.

The biscuit is nice and crunchy when you bite into it but if you want to keep it this way then you will need to put it in an airtight container as they will go stake after a few days, stale biscuits are nasty as they are all soft. The cream in the middle is nice and soft, especially if it's hot weather as it will then melt slightly. The vanilla taste of these is just right, enough to be refreshing without being too strong. I do not dunk my biscuits as I don't drink either coffee or tea so unfortunately I can't tell you how well these fair in that category.

Overall I think that these are a great biscuit, and perfect for those who don't like chocolate as they are like the vanilla alternative to bourbons. I was very surprised that Asda had produced such a good quality biscuit and I'll happily buy them again next time I have to shop there. 10 out 0f 10.

Summary: Delicious!
