Advantages: Great price, taste wonderful
Disadvantages: None really...
Time for a short review to give my wrists a rest!
A biscuit is a biscuit I always say and through every custard cream I have tasted I have to say that it really is difficult to tell them apart. The only thing that separates them is of course the price and when deciding to buy biscuits recently for the first time in months I decided to take the aforementioned statement to heart and picked up a couple of packets of Asda's Smart Price custard creams.
A custard cream of course is a rectangular shaped biscuit that makes a sandwich out of a layer of creamy, custard filling and as most biscuits tend to be is decorated on the outside with various patterns.
There's about 35 biscuits in each packet and the price is about the same roughly working out to about a penny per biscuit. Presented in the usual dull and unattractive Smart Price packaging of white and green, the biscuits themselves are much nicer to look at. There's not even a picture of the product on the front with just the very uninspiring and bland writing that works in harmony with Smart Price though in this instance, a visual confirmation of what you're buying isn't really needed as custard creams are a part of society!
Asda's custard creams are great to dunk in a warm drink as rather than just going all soggy or crumbling, the biscuit soaks up the liquid and makes the tasting experience even more enjoyable.
You'll find that the creaminess hits you straight away and there is a very generous amount of filling within each biscuit so the outer coating doesn't dull your taste buds. However, with this said, the biscuit itself is also exceptionally sweet. Once you've let the rich taste wash over your throat, you'll find yourself reaching for more until half the packet or so has gone! Even when you've finished the taste still lingers in your mouth making them one of the best biscuits around and also a pretty fine custard cream considering the brand and price.
Whilst the nutrition information on the back of the packaging declares that the biscuits aren't very good for you, I don\t see anything wrong with treating yourself to a packet every once and a while. They're addictive and deliver moment after moment of tasteful bliss. Like I mentioned at the start of this review - the amount of filling and the quality of Asda's Smart Price custard creams is no different to a lot of much more expensive brands I've tried in the past but for the great price you can get them for here, stock up your trolley!
Summary: A great. cheap biscuit
