Advantages: look and taste like any other custard cream

Disadvantages: none

My children like a biscuit. Now not being one to want to deprive them of the simple pleasures in life I do buy them biscuits for treats. Their tastes change regularly but fortunately they are not after any of the fancy stuff and at the moment their biscuits of choice are Malted Milk and Custard Creams.

Now my children haven't yet decided what brand or makes are most acceptable so they are happy with whatever is in the biscuit tin.

I first bought the Asda Smartprice Custard Creams a few weeks ago when trying to economise by downgrading on the brands I was buying. I'm not a brand snob when it comes to these things but you do get used to buying a certain thing and I think sometimes it's good to have a look around for a cheaper option.

Anyway, the biscuits come in the standard green and white Asda Smartprice packaging but I put them straight into a biscuit tin so the packing isn't something I really look at. The packet does have one of those red things that you pull around one end to ease opening and this works fine 9 times out of 10.

You get two rows of biscuits inside your packing so no excess waste there which is good as we have just switched to fortnightly collection so cutting down on rubbish is something else to add to my 'to do' list!

The biscuits themselves look and smell just like any other custard creams I have seen or smelt. There is nothing on them to suggest that they are from a budget food range. They hold together nicely and you rarely get any coming apart in the tin. They also taste just like a custard cream and are not too sweet as I have notice with other cheaper brands. My children like to pull them apart and eat the cream first which is easily done even by my 20 month old son. I have had other custard creams in the past that had to be prised apart with a knife. The thing I particularly enjoy about a custard cream is that it can be dunked into a cup of tea without too much risk of it breaking apart and sinking to the bottom. The Asda Smart Price custard creams dunk very well indeed and are most enjoyable.

I would recommend these custard creams to anyone because for 30p you get 400g of biscuits that are just as good if not better than many other brands I have tried.

Summary: Why buy a more expensive brand when these are just as good
