... reason was that the difference in price from these and the free range eggs from Tesco was so small it was pointless, but the main reason it was a silly decision is that the eggs were simply not that nice. The yolks seemed to be a bit dull in colour and although the eggs had plenty shelf time left they did not seem to be as fresh as other eggs and certainly not as tasty. I paid 82p for a box of six, they also come in box`s of 15 for £1.49 but when you consider you can get free range Tesco eggs for 89p for six, there's re...more

Premium Review Asda Smart Price Eggs: Cheap & Cheerful eggs! (277 words)

My other half cooked a gorgeous fry-up yesterday and therefore I have a few 'new' things to review. Asda Smart Price eggs are eggs provided in a clear plastic tray which clips together with two hole/peg areas and there are 6 eggs which are in two rows of three. Upon snapping open the container I can see that there are indeed six eggs, a couple of them look like they need a good wash but apart from that they are fine, if a little on the small side. The eggs crack well and have a normal looking yolk, no strange double yolks here. Eggs are useful for frying, poaching, scrambling, boiling or using in recipes or cake mixtures. As far as I ...  Read the complete review

The amount of eggs consumed varies greatly according to each household, we tend to use quite a few eggs per week. Boiled eggs for breakfast, an omelette for tea and that doesn't count the eggs that get used in baking or for making sauces. I would like nothing better than to be able to afford to buy Free Range eggs and to steer clear of the caged hen eggs, but the sad fact is that my purse strings wont allow that. At the moment Asda have packs of 15 caged hens eggs on special offer at £1. The eggs come from units that are approved by and operating to the BEIC Lion Quality code of practise. Asda are quick to point out that they care very much ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Asda Smart Price Eggs: Good value if you can ignore your conscience. (308 words)

We usually shop in Asda and, as eggs are so versatile, we usually buy at least half a dozen with our weekly shop. For a long time we did buy the Smart Price ones and I really can't fault the quality of the eggs at all. The sizes are the same as other eggs, yolks are nice and yellow/orange and they taste much the same as any other egg. The price is probably the most attractive thing about the eggs: 82p for a box of 6 or £1.49 for 15. When you compare this to £1.26 for a box of 6 medium sized 'Barn' eggs or £1.36 for 6 medium sized 'Free Range', the Smart Price really are much cheaper. However, ss much as I really can't complain about the quality ...  Read the complete review

I don't eat eggs. I would like to like them, but for some reason find them boring. I like to bake cakes though, and most cake mixture calls for some eggs. I'm going to sound old here - but have you seen how expensive a pack of eggs can be? Perhaps it is because I don't buy them often, but I thought the price for these seemed expensive until I looked around. You can buy these in packs of 6 and they are part of Asda's Smart Price range, which is their basic, budget range. The 6 pack cost 82p, and the cheapest 6 pack after this in the shops was £1.19, so quite a big difference. I would go into the whole description of an egg, but i'm sure we know ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Asda Smart Price Eggs: If only they were free range - I wouldn't feel so guilty (230 words)

Asda smart Price eggs are currently £1.50 for 15 eggs. The are from battery/caged hens, which is no surprise given the price. I have found that they can be a little grubby, but then I ALWAYS wash eggs. I know some people do not bother with this, but seriously, think about where they have been. These eggs look good when they are cracked open, a little smaller than free rangers, but they do the job. I have at least one egg each day, up to my limit of 10 per week, so that is why I buy the pack of 15 rather than the pack of six. (approx 88p). They taste great, just like any other eggs. They are well formed, the yolk separates well from ...  Read the complete review
