Advantages: Different and fun for children
Disadvantages: A little sickly
At one point in time Asda's Smartprice Foamy Fruits were my favourite sweets. For some reason I just really loved them and would have chosen them over anything else. I say 'at one point' and 'would have' because now I'm not too keen on them. I can eat them but I just wouldn't go mad for them.
Asda's Foamy Fruits come in a very plain and therefore rather cheap looking bag, but then again they do only cost 34p for 175g. The bag itself is made of plastic has is green and white in colour with a clear sweet shaped window that allow you to see the sweets inside. The name of the sweets in question is then printed on the front of the bag in along with the information that the sweets are free from artificial and flavourings.
The back of the bag has all the storage instructions, ingredient lists and allergy advice (may contain traces of nuts and/or seeds) as well as the nutritional information you would expect to find.

The bag in question contains 175g of sweets and when you open it you will find about 45 sweets, 15 of each type. The three types are strawberry, banana and orange and each sweet is shaped like the fruit in question and is pink, yellow or orange respectively. Due to the mix of sweet flavours the smell oozing out of the bag is a rather mixed one and is at times not particularly appetising due to the jumble of scents.
Picking up one of the sweets you will notice that they are quite hard and covered in a slightly white dusting that smells rather sweet. When yu pop one of them you're your mouth the hard outer coating, which to be far isn't very hard, crumbles quickly revealing the far chewier foamy inside. Each of the sweets does have a different taste and in my opinion the strawberry and banana ones are far superior to the orange ones, which are too sweet the majority of the time. The strawberry and banana flavoured ones have a subtle taste that is quite refreshing although this too can become a little sickly as time progresses.
Like I have mentioned earlier at one point I would have quickly given these sweets the full five stars but looking at them and tasting them now I think that my three stars is about right. The sweets do taste ok and I can see their appeal with small children. They are also very good value for money but they do become rather sickly after a while and the orange ones aren't particularly great. If you fancy something a little different though and just want to nibble on a couple then these are something that may be worth a try.
Summary: Cheap and cheerful yet soft and sickly too
