Advantages: The price

Disadvantages: The taste

I have to admit that I am am a true and loyal fan of Nutella Hazelnut Chocolate Spread. I can eat it on bread, on biscuits, on crackers but my favourite is just straight off the spoon!
Ive never tried a cheaper brand because ive always loved the taste of and it reminds me of summer holidays with my gran in Italy.

Anyhow with the threat of redundancies looming and my grocery bill getting all the bigger since my 3 year old tells me what she'd like Ive been trying the cheaper supermarkets own brands.

Had the chocolate spread not have stated 'hazelnut chocolate spread' then I wouldnt have given it a second glance but how different could hazelnut chocolate spread taste between brands?
Truthfully the deciding factor was the price. Smartprice costing 72p for 400g wheras Nutella usually costs me around the £1.42 mark - half the price is quite a saving.. anyhow to the nitty gritty, on opening the jar I was met with a sweet chocolate smell but not a chocolate hazelnut smell. In I dived with my teaspoon awaiting the taste of heaven but alas all I tasted was disappointment! There was no hazelnut taste and the chocolate just wouldnt melt on my tongue, this was followed by a 'sweetner' aftertaste and my tongue felt almost greasy!
I guess that I was expecting a little too much for my 72p and having grown up on Nutella I decided that this was clouding my judgement so I tried it on my daughter who actually refused to eat it!
I guess that you win some and you loose some but I wont be trading in my nutella in future!

Asda Smart Price Hazelnut Chocolate Spread is produced in Germany. It contains no artificial colours or flavours and no hydrogenated fat.

Summary: Its not really a saving if you cant eat it is it?

Nutella can be found in some places at the moment at about a pound a jar so its not too bad..
