Advantages: Delicious chocolate and hazelnut flavours, smooth and spreads well

Disadvantages: ----------

While in Asda recently I decided to try a few items from their Smart Price range, one such item being the Hazelnut Chocolate Spread which is priced at just 57p for a 400g jar.

When my friend arrived with her two young grandchildren today I did both of the children a chocolate spread sandwich and they appeared to enjoy it so much that I ended up cooking myself a couple of crumpets and spreading them generously with the chocolate spread for a little treat.

It really is very good indeed. It isn't as glossy as the Nutella I usually buy for my granddaughters but the chocolate spread is very tasty with a good rounded chocolate flavour and the underlying taste of hazelnuts.

The chocolate spread goes on well using a blunt knife, and my twelve year old granddaughter assures me that it's just as good with a teaspoon - although this is certainly not the way I would choose to eat it!

On my crumpets I found the chocolate spread to be very moreish; it has a thick almost solid consistency but breaks down easily for spreading, it goes on smoothly and didn't cause the soft bread I used earlier to tear or fall apart.

It does taste a little cheaper than Nutella, although that's because the premium branded chocolate spreads are so luxurious tasting that such a cheap one cannot really compare. To anyone who hasn't already eaten Nutella I think they will find it absolutely wonderful, those of us who DO eat Nutella may find it slightly lacking.

Personally I do think Nutella is a little too rich tasting so actually prefer this Smart Price version. The chocolate flavour isn't as intense and I like the way the hazelnut taste is so subtle, it compliments the chocolate wonderfully yet doesn't overwhelm it at all. It has a lovely chocolate aftertaste too which lingers nicely for a while, again this is not overpowering but simply serves to remind me of what a lovely sweet snack I've just eaten.

Summary: This Smart Price Chocolate Spread is as nice as Nutella in my opinion for just 57p!

So how many points do you reckon you'd get out of the whole jar then? lol
