Asda Smart Price bread looked like a good buy because I pay £1.04 for Warburton's bread at the moment. I use three large loaves per week, so I thought it might be worth trying the cheaper brand. The packing is simply a plastic bag with green writing on it, but that should make no difference to the product inside. I thought that the bread slices looked much smaller than the Warburton ones. They are supposed to be medium sliced. The colour of the Asda bread was kind of grey and of putting and it felt a bit dry to touch. I'm used to pure white bread that is moist to touch and eat. Like many people, my budget doesn't seem to be stretching as far lately, so I've been down-branding as much as my shopping as I can. With some products, this pays off, as sometimes you can't tell the difference - especially with items like pasta and rice which are going to get covered in sauces anyway . So, I purchased a load of the Smartprice bread, in it's distinctive but incredibly basic green and white packaging, for a mere 47 pence . My usual loaf of choice is Kingsmill Everyday White, which currently costs £1 a loaf, and I get through two each week . So thats a big saving - 53p per loaf less, which would soon add up to pounds if I stuck with it ... Read the complete review
