I love sweets and like getting bargains and dont like spending a lot of money on them so im always looking out for offers in the supermarkets. I spotted these midget gems one day in Asda in the sweets aisle while i was doing my grocery shopping for the week. I was amazed to see that they were only 25p! A bag weighs 175 grams and is in a white and green quite boring looking plastic bag. As its from Asdas smartprice range though, i wouldnt expect the packaging to be very appealing. The front of the bag has a small see through window in the shape of an old fashioned sweet where you can see the midget gems through. The pack informs me that they are free from ... I've always been fond of Midget Gems and my Dad absolutely adores them but the popular brand, Maynards, are quite expensive for what they are. For this reason I am always on the look out for cheaper varieties and that is when I came across Asda's Smart Price Midget Gems, which are now a frequent sitter in our shopping basket. The sweets in question come in a very plain white and green bag with the words Asda Smart Price Midget Gems printed prominently on the front. The front of the bag also tells me that the sweets are free from artificial colours or flavourings. The back of the packet is simply white in colour and has green writing on it that tells me how to ... Read the complete review

I like the odd pack of Midget Gems, as I like Jelly sweets. I am trying a lot more budget brands to find out if there is a big taste difference, as the prices seem to be a lot cheaper. The Smart Price range is part of Asda's budget range. So what is the sweets? They are little lumps of jelly which are quite hard. They are flat on the bottom and kind of ridged on the top. There is a few different colours, so a few different flavours such as Red - Strawberry Orange - Orange Black - Licorice Yellow - Lemon Green - Lime It could be because they are a cheaper brnad, but I found that I could taste the flavour, but it seemed ... I used to be a rather big fan of these until recently, i think i may be getting more particular with age. I have to say my favourites have always been the yellow ones. There lemon flavoured and are quit accurate in flavour to the real thing. My worst flavour has to be the black coloured midget gem which i expected to be blackcurrant flavour, however to my shock! I found them to be liquorice! And of cause, due to them being my most hated flavour, there are a disproportionate number compared with the nicer flavours such as strawberry. Not only that, but they aren't real liquorish so don't carry the health benefits! outrageous! I have found that eating this particular ... Read the complete review

For the first time ever, I did a food shop in Asda. On my way around the store I went down the sweets isle and thought that I would give the Asda Smart Price Midget Gems a try. I am trying to save some money by purchasing supermarket own brand and the value brands to see if I can find some cheaper products that are just as good or even better than the leading brands, that is why I purchased this product. I have never tried anything other than the leading brands in Midget Gems or any other sweets for that matter, so usually I can be expecting to pay anything around £2.00 for a large bag of sweets... But this 175g bag cost me just 25p! Which in my opinion is a ... Read the complete review
