Advantages: Cheap price...and no bits..
Disadvantages: Watery, Sugary, Poor excuse for jam in my opinion
My ultimate favourite when I was a kid was peanut butter and jam sandwiches, and I still love it now I'm 23! However, I've always been a fussy bugger and can't have jam with 'bits' in, those bits being seeds, I hate it in my yoghurts too! Yes I'm a fussy one, but I'll never change.
The jam I usually buy is Hartley's no bits variety but unfortunately they didn't have any left. Not wanting to go home without any jam to go with my peanut butter I thought I'd give the Asda Smart Price jam a try, with it being such a cheap price I wasn't too bothered whether it had bits in it or not because if it did, I wasn't going to waste much money!

The price as with most Asda Smart Price products is cheap as chips, and at 38p for a 454g jar of the strawberry jam, it's a bargain.

I absolutely love my own brand products as you may know if you've read any of my other food reviews, but unfortunately this jam was a big disappointment. It didn't bother me too much as the price was so little but it was more like watery jelly instead of fruity jam. Granted it didn't have any nasty seedy bits in it, which was a plus for me, but when I spread some of the jam onto my bread it was just like pink jelly being spread onto my bread. It didn't look good, and it didn't taste very nice either.
It's very watery, sweet and sugary and just didn't satisfy me at all.
I ended up buying my normal brand of jam the very next day and gave the Asda brand to my mum, she liked it at first until she left it in the fridge for about a week, she opened the jar and the jam had become even more watery than when I first opened it.
It's recommended that you keep it in the fridge once opened and can be kept in the fridge for up to 6 weeks, so it wasn't like it was out of date or anything.
This jam is just basically cheap jelly with a hint of strawberry. I'd only recommend it to people who aren't fussy about jams really, if your fussy like me and don't like bits you can get Hartley's No Bits Jam for 78p from Asda, there are so many other brands of jams around I think it's worth just paying an extra 50p/60p or however much for a bit more of a fruity jam and not a watery pink jelly to put on your sandwich, or your toast, crumpets etc.
Thanks for reading!
