Advantages: Not a bad taste, good pastry, what little filling there is ain't half bad, great price.

Disadvantages: Pastry is quite dry, not enough filling.

Asda Smartprice apple pies are by far the cheapest apple pies on the shelf at just 36p for 6 little treats. They come packaging in a plastic tray with six holes cut out and covered with celophane which is partly decorated with the white & green Smartprice logo, nutritional information etc. Apple pies, in general, can be heated up or eaten cold and are nice with ice cream or custard but I usually eat mine alone.

The apple pie looks quite basic, there is no leaf adorning the top of this pie, it does have a fluted edge & comes within a little foil tray which should avoid too many crumbs getting everywhere although I didn't really find crumbs to be a problem with this particular apple pie. The pastry is very thick and a little too dry for my liking. The sauce is very thick and does have some lumps of apple within it but not many, the sauce itself is quite nice but overall I had difficulty really tasting any apple filling when eating the pie, although, if you ate the filling alone it does have some flavour to it.

I wouldn't buy these as something premium to give to my friends or relatives but I would consider buying them again as I snack for myself and prehaps having them with some cream or ice cream so that they are nice and moist and not so dry.

Overall I would rate these a 3/5, there was some apple filling in the pie and the pastry was very nice, if a bit too dry, and for 36p I think that these are a bargain.

Summary: An average apple pie that's not too bad tasty and filled a little but could have more filling.
