Advantages: Tasty
Disadvantages: Lots of fat, very sickly
Asda Bourbon Smart Price biscuits are an excellent bargain at just 13p if you like the very sweet taste. I normaly buy McVitties Bourbon biscuits which tend to be slightly less sweet and darker in colour.
I estimate that you get about 15 sandwich type biscuits in a packet . I was unable to find the weigh details on the packet which had already been torn apart when I got to it. (At home I mean, not in store). That shows how popular these are in my house.
Each biscuit contains:
65kcals
2.9grms of fat
0.3grms salt.
That's a lot of fat for one biscuit.
A recent recall of all McVitties produced bourbon creams including Asda Smart Price (yes, McVitties make these but Smart Price are not number one quality off the production line), put me off buying these biscuits again.
Batches with specific sell by dates were recalled by the factory because of he likelihood of metal contamination. The ones affected are:
Asda Smartprice Bourbon Creams 200g - Best Before 29.03.08 / 05.04.08
(Happy Shopper, Co-op, Morrisons and Aldi brands were all affected by the recall.)
These biscuits are very sweet and slightly rough in texture. They are pale in colour compared to McVitties Bourbons. The cream is quite sickly and full of fat which a health consideration if you are giving these to a family.
I wouldn't buy these again, even at this low price as they are so unhealthy. I'm not a fanatic over healthy eating but I was shocked to find out just how much fat these contain. Even the thought of the three biscuits I had with my coffee makes me shudder. Three biscuits include 8.7 grms of fat which is about the equivalent of a MacDonald's burger in a bun.
Summary: Cheap, kids love them but they have lots of fat and you need to watch the batch details .
