Advantages: cheap

Disadvantages: bit dry on their own

Asda have really come up with a winner here: a big packet of chocolate biscuits, based on the old bourbon favourite, for just 17 pence. Even in our credit-crunch economy, it's tough to get such a bargain, yet this is no small packet either, containing over a dozen biscuits.

The bourbon is a sandwich biscuit filled with chocolate flavour cream. You would think at least one of those elements would be poor quality what with the bargain price, so let me tell you:

The biscuit itself is brown in colour, with a light coating of sugar. It is crunchy and brittle, and easily breaks apart in your mouth. The sugar coating gives it a sweet first taste, but when this disolves you are left with a less sweet biscuit; it's still sweet, but not over-sweet, and I could easily eat a fair few of these.

The chocolate flavoured cream inside is fairly thin - around half a centimetre thick, and is evenly spread the full length and width of the biscuit. Because of this, every mouth-ful combines cream with biscuit. The cream itself is hard and dry, and combined with the biscuit actually creates quite a dry mouthful. Because of this, you need a cup of tea or something else liquid to mositen the experience, but that's not neccessarily a bad thing: these sorts of biscuits are great with a brew.

The bourbon is strong enough that it can be dunked into a drink and won't fall apart, and when wet in a hot beverage, the chocolate cream begins to melt a bit which produces an even tastier moutful than when eaten on its own.

Nutritionally, these are full of sugar, and you should be careful not to eat your way through a whole pack every time you have a cup of tea.

Over all, this is a lovely biscuit that gets even lovelier when dunked in a hot drink.

Summary: eat them!
