Advantages: Cheap but as tasty as the so called better quality varieties
Disadvantages: Hard to stop eating, pile on those pounds
Asda 'Smart price' is the no-frills label associated with the cheaper end of the products scale. The cheapest of the product range is derived from the fact that the packaging of the product is very basic, hence the label 'no-frills'. It is also believed that the actual product is inferior with regards to quality as well, in this instance that is not the case.
The smart price bourbon biscuits can be found in the familiar green and white packaging associated with smart price products. They currently sell for 23p for a 200g pack which is great value. The other bourbon biscuits asda sell are asda bourbon creams (blue packet) which are 58p however the packet is twice the size (i.e. 400g opposed to 200g which would equate to 29p / 200g)
My son loves these, we have tried the smart price and asda blue packet ones and to be honest we cannot tell the difference. The bourbon biscuit is the classic two lengths of chocolate biscuit making a sandwich filled with a chocolate creamy icing inside.
Byte into the biscuit initially feeling the crunch, as you slowly chew the biscuit, the nice creamy chocolate texture and flavour of the cream filling melts on your tongue. These are every bit as tasty as the more expensive varieties of bourbon creams.
Ingredients that make up each biscuit are:
Wheat Flour , Sugar , Vegetable Oil , Fat Reduced Cocoa Powder , Glucose Syrup , Dextrose Monohydrate , Wheat Starch , Raising Agents (Ammonium Carbonates, Sodium Bicarbonate) , Salt , Flavourings.
The accompanying nutritional values for each biscuit include:
Energy 272kJ 65kcal
Protein 0.7g
Carbohydrate 9.0g of which sugars 4.1g
Fat 2.9g of which saturates 1.7g
Fibre 0.5g
Sodium Trace
equivalent as salt Trace
Overall these are a great value for money biscuit, full of flavour and very tasty. The only problem is they are very morish, and at 65 calories / biscuit it is very easy to over indulge from a dietry perspective.
Summary: Excellent value for money
