Advantages: NICE TASTE, LOW PRICE

Disadvantages: PACKAGING A BIT BORING

I regularly use cheese spread on top of toast, in sandwiches and on baguettes. I usually buy the blue-tub-with-yellow-writing well known brand, and pay over a pound for it.

My recent interest (obsession you may call it) with opting for less well-known brands when doing the weekly shop led me to select a tub of "Asda Smart price" cheese spread instead of my usual brand.

The first thing I noticed about the Smart price cheese was the price. It cost a little under 40p and is the same size as the tub of cheese that I usually buy (150g I think), meaning that it is less than half the price of the brand that I usually buy, which impressed me straight away.

The second thing I noticed about the smart price cheese was the basic white packaging. Although packaging alone would probably never deter me from buying a particular product, it has to be said that the Asda smart price branding is rather dull and plain. (Perhaps this helps to keep costs down though, and I will admit to having a preference for low prices rather than pretty patterns on my tub of cheese spread!)

The taste of the cheese however, is very pleasant and I would struggle to find fault with it. It tastes almost identical to other spreading cheeses that I buy regularly, but perhaps it could be said that it is very slightly 'sharper' if you know what I mean - I think the other cheeses are perhaps a bit milder or something. I have used other spreading cheeses before though, and have found that they have left a bitter after-taste. I couldn't say that the Asda smart price cheese did though; I found it tasty and enjoyable to eat.

The texture of the cheese is lovely and smooth and creamy.... Identical to my usual brand in every way. Even the colour is, in my opinion, the exact same (a cream/off white colour).

I will be buying the Asda smart price cheese from now on, happily converted! I can't believe how good the quality of the cheese is (nor the taste, really) considering the low cost!

I'd definitely recommend it, and am giving it full marks! :-D

Summary: Nice cheese for a very low price!

I have no problem buying basic slabs of cheese, but for some reason I'm not a cheese spread person. Odd.

Not bad for under 40p then! :)
