I do like Cheese spread, as I like the taste of Cheese, but not so much a Cheddar Cheese. Since Cheese spread is a lighter taste then that is what I like to have on my Sandwiches. Often I will put a few bits of Ham on as well and be fancy and have a Ham and Cheese Sandwich.
I had always reached for Dairylea. Not because it is a brand name, more so I know with Dairylea I get a nice creamy Cheese taste, but when in Asda last week I decided to put the Dairylea down and try this one. After all it is part of the Asda budget brand so it wouldn't have cost a fortune if I didn't like it. The tub was 150g and cost 38p.
The tub isn't that exciting looking. It is just a plain white tub and the writing is in green on it. It looks pretty cheap, but I don't mind on the packaging. I would always rather they skimped on the packaging and spent more on the actual product. The Cheese Spread is covered by a foil lid and this stays in place when the plastic lid covers the tub.
The Cheese looks pretty shiny and a very light yellow colour - more like a deep Cream colour in fact. I'm not sure if I was expecting this to be runny, but I dug my knive in and a thick chunk came out. Since this is chilled you normally find that things can be quite hard to spread straight out of the fridge, but this spread evenly and without making any holes in the fresh Bread.
Although this didn't taste quite as Creamy as Dairylea it did have a creamy taste to it and the Cheese taste was quite nice. I wouldn't say it had a sharp taste to it, but there was a tiny tang to this. Not all unplesant, but a bit different than other Cheese Spreads i've used.
I would buy this again as the price was great and the taste was nice, but I still think that Dairylea is the nicest tasting that i've had. But if you're watching the pennies than I recommend this.
