Advantages: Inexpensive.
Disadvantages: tastes horrible and the sponge is very dry.
I do not have a sweet tooth but here I was in the mood for a sweet treat and it was the day before our big shop, my wife was out with the grandkids and there was nothing that I would usually have as a sweet snack so after a good rake around I came across an Asda smart price chocolate Swiss roll.
My wife buys these for the grandkids who seem to love them with custard and to be fair maybe a splash of custard would have improved this but alone it was terrible.
I opened the clear wrapper which has no frill`s only the name of the product written in Asda green, the smell was a very chocolaty one and very pleasant also but as I cut myself two slices I could tell straight away that it was going to be a bit dry.
Truth is it was more than a bit dry, the sponge cake was so dry it just stuck all around my mouth and the cream filling was so thick and sweet it made the cake very unpleasant.
A bit of custard would eliminate the dryness problem but I fear would only add to the sweetness so this is definitely not one for me but as I say the grandkids love it so maybe it is suitable for younger less educated taste buds.
It is of course being a smart price product very inexpensive but unless you are on a really tight budget then it is well worth paying a little extra for a decent moist Swiss roll.
I cannot comment on Asda`s smart price range in general because I do not use the products but I can safely say that this Swiss roll is very poor!
Thanks for reading!
Bill
Summary: Buy a better one if you can!
