I'd not had Swiss Roll in years, but last week when my mam bought a roll from the Asda Smart Price range, she offered me a slice and I decided to give it a try - what harm could it do?

The Swiss roll comes in a clear wrapper so you can see what it looks like. The outer layer of chocolate sponge is quite a deep shade of chocolate brown. On the inside you will see a snail of white cream, an inner layer to the cake.

Cutting a slice off the cake, I could not help notice how sweet the chocolate aroma was. I could not detect any aroma from the cream - though whether it was because it does not have one or the chocolate was overpowering, I do not know.

When you bite into the cake, it's quite crumbly and sticky. The sponge has quite a bitter chocolate taste to it, though it's the cream I prefer! Needless to say, the vanilla cream is exceptionally sweet and creamy, and again quite sticky. Thankfully this sugary combination is not too sickly!

This is a delicious cake, and well worth the price! With just 16p a roll, what do you have to lose?
