Advantages: cheap, tasty

Disadvantages: dry

I'm not big on cakey kind of treats but my daughter and son both like a nice slice of cake after dinner. I was doing the weekly shop in ASDA and thought I could pick some cake up for them. I then spotted this and for the low price of just 13p I thought that they could try it, and it wouldn't really marrer if they didn't like it.

It is a chocolate flavoured swiss roll with creamy vanilla flavoured filling. It is fairly small in size, both lengeth and width, but for 13p, I wasn't complaining. I didn't think we'd get through a big one anyway because my daughter tries to watch the calories and my son wouldn't eat a whole one. It looks quite desirable, it is a nice dark chocolately brown colour with a lot of the nice white filling.

I dished up some of this after dinner one night and didn't tell my daughter that it was smartprice. If I had, she would probably have refused to eat it being a stubborn teenager. I asked her what she thought and she said it was lovely. She said she liked it and that the white filling had a really nice, creamy sweet taste but that the chocolate cake part was a bit dry that she didn't like.

I felt happier giving it to my son when I read that the cake doesn't contain any artificial colours, flavours or hydrogenated fat. It was good when the product was so cheap, but still relatively healthy.

Per 1/2 of the swiss roll - probably a decent serving for your average person or the whole thing for me :)

Overall, my son loved it and wolfed it down. My daughter liked it, especially the middle filling part, but wasn't mad on the cake part and didn't eat all of it. It's certainly worth the money for 13p and you might like too add something to make it less dry like custard which my kids don't like. Overall, you may as well give it a try, there's really nothing to lose here. :)

Summary: nice cake for a very low price.
