I love mashed potato, but I rarely make my own using REAL potatoes. The only occasions where I make the effort is if we have guests for tea. I have tried loads of different brands of instant mash potato and almost always resort to the cheapest on the shelves, which is inevitably the smartprice / value ranges.

When I last bought the Asda Smartprice Instant Mash Potato I paid just 18p for a 120g bag. There is 373 calories and 1g fat per 100g. This mash generally does 4 servings for us which is great value.

The instructions state to mix with boiling water, so it is easy peasy. Depending on what we are eating it with I sometimes add milk or a small knob of butter for the other half, but I try not too for myself as that way it is even more low fat. I used to follow the Slimming World eating plan and this was classed as a 'free food' and I am sure it still is. That is a useful bit for information for any SW members / followers.

I find that it mixes up really smoothly and tastes great, it is fine for me without the butter or the milk and very good with a dollop of mustard / mint sauce or just a few herbs and a bit of grated cheddar.

I would recommend this to anyone and although I will probably waiver from time to time and user other brands depending on where I am shopping, I would definitely buy this again myself. I actually prefer it to Smash.

It is healthy, nutritious and filling and scrummy!
