I don't tend to eat Mashed Potato as part of a meal on it's own, but I do like to make Shephard's Pie, but i'm too lazy to peel, boil and mash Potato to put on top. I've always reached for a pach of Smash, as I think thesedays it tastes like "real" Potato, but I decided to try this the other week and report my finding.

Part of the Asda budget range, which is called Smartprice. This cost a bargain 18p for the pack, which when made up made a good mound of Mash. The pack size is 120g.

The packaging is alright. It is a white pack which has the green Smart Price writing on it. No frills packaging. The cooking instructions are on the back as is the Nutritional Information. The pack is easy enough to rip open at the top.

The Mash consists of little flakes of yellow-ish powder. Not that fine a grain, To cook all you do is pour the pack into a large enough bowl and add 1 pint of boiling water. From my experience of Smash, I know you get to work straight away stirring the mixture with a spoon or fork, as the Water and Powder mix together quite quick, and you don't want any powdery lumps in your Mash. This made the Mash in approx 1 minute, and although to look at it it looked a bit stodgy, this spread a thick layer over my Shepherd's Pie, and tasted nice enough. My husband had a bit Mash on it's own and he said it was alright.

This was ok for what it was. It didn't seem seasoned, but you can add a bit Salt and Pepper. It didn't have a nice Creamt taste, and probably for that is why I would normally keep plumping for the more expensive brand in the future.

Fluffy enough instant Mash.
