Asda smart price mince I originally bought this mince after watching an advert about false economy and though that this would be a great thing to try. The idea is that you cook from frozen and only cook what you need so none is wasted, a great idea in theory. Usually the quality of the smart price brand is pretty good, sometimes a little bland but never tasting bad and always not that different in quality between the asda regular brand. However this mince is an exception, it really is terrible. I ended up cooking the whole packet at once anyway, so that was my false economy idea out of the window. When we re-evaluated our food bill a short while a go I cut back in a few areas and decided that I would try this mince to see what it was like. I swiftly returned to my usual brand because I was not impressed with it at all. The mince can be found in the freezers at Asda and it's part of the smartprice range. A 700g bag will set you back around the 80 pence mark and the meat inside consists of beef and pork. On opening the bag you are met with small, pink worms that seem to be a good a size and although the product doesn't smell of much at this stage, the bag is brimming which is a plus in this day and age. This must surely be the worst Smartprice product I've ever tried; if I'd be ASDA I would consider putting a bio-hazard warning on the front of the pack. The Tesco Value minced meat tasted OK so I thought this here should not be to different; but I was in for a bad surprise and all my flatmates agreed that the Smartprice mince belongs on the list "things we're never ever going to buy again" ************** The mince is mixed beef and pork and consists to a high percentage of fat and water.
