Advantages: Four different types of veg, simple packaging, great price.
Disadvantages: Could be a little crunchier, not quite as nice as fresh veg.
Asda Smartprice mixed vegetables come in a 907g bag that is available from Asda stores or www.asda.co.uk for 77p. The packaging is very simple white & green with a picture of the mixed vegetables in a bowl on the front. The back of the packet has cooking instructions & nutritional information as well as ingredients. This bag contains a mixture of peas, carrots, broccoli & cauliflower and can be cooked in a variety of ways and used in many different recipes.
If I am going to be using this vegetables I normally get them out a couple of hours before, rinse them & then leave them in a saucepan of water but these can be cooked from frozen if you'd prefer and this is probably the quickest thing to do.
There are lots of pieces of each vegetable and although some bits are a bit beaten and bashed these are perfectly fine for using in soups, casseroles or just as an accompaniment to your roast dinner. There are 44 calories per 115g and of course they are low in fat (1g) as you would expect with vegetables. One of the great benefits about frozen vegetables is normally that they are frozen not long after they are picked and this helps to keep all the nutrients and vitamins in which is great for keeping yourself healthy.
The vegetables in this bag are tasty and not bland at all, as I usually use mine in a recipe I don't mind using cheaper ingredients as they are going to taste far better once they've been slow cooked or oven baked as part of a casserole or as part of a stir-fry so I would definitely recommend purchasing a bag of these and throwing them in your freezer then you have already got one of the staples for your main meal.
They are great value for money & I will be buying them again. I am rating these vegetables 4/5 because they taste good, are cheap & there are lots of them in each bag. I have knocked one star off because some of them are really bashed around and not so great for presenting to guests.
These mixed vegetables are great to have in the freezer as you don't have to worry about them going out of date or anything like that.
Summary: A great staple item to keep in the freezer for those emergencies.
