Newest Review: ... about these is they are peeled already, which saves a lot of effort for me (I hate peeling potatoes). The worst thing is ... more

... they can be of all different sizes which makes them hard to cook consistently. I boil them in a pan of water and find the small ones soft by the time the big ones are done. Taste-wise, they taste of nothing! They're very neutral and bland, and you have to add something to them for flavour. We tend to eat them with Salmon to bulk out the fish and they do a good job of that. All in all an excellent product, but they could do with being the same size in the tin to really win me over. However, it sure does save peeli...more

My partner and I got home quite late last night and as we were both ravenous I was looking for a quick and easy dinner to make for us both, instead of running round to the chip shop (my partner's suggestion... tsk tsk!). I rummaged through my freezer to see what little delights were waiting in there for me, and settled on a packet of frozen cheese crisp bakes. After reading the packaging and noticing that they would not take long to cook, I popped them in the oven and set about looking for something to eat alongside them. It was when I was raking about in our kitchen cupboards that I came across some tinned vegetables. I thought that this would be ...  Read the complete review

These new potatoes from Asda are a great little find. They cost just 22p for 550g and I always have a tin in the cupboard for a quick convienient addition to meals. When you open the tin you will see that the potatoes are a nice cream colour because they have already been peeled which is one of the most attractive things about tinned new potatoes. I hate peeling mormal sized potatoes as it is but I despise peeling new potatoes. They are so small and really fiddly to peel and it just takes me so long so buying these just cuts out that inconvienience for me. The amount of potatoes in each tin does tend to vary. Sometimes I find that I get 8-10 big ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Asda Smartprice New Potatoes In Salted Water: Delicious new potatoes to accompany pretty much any meal. (317 words)

Asda Smartprice new potatoes in salted water come provided in an aluminium can with a white & green paper label which shows the nutritional information & cooking instructions which are all simple to read and the can looks very simple. It does not have a ring pull but as this is just a budget product I wouldn't really expect one. Once I open the can with a can opener there is lots of beige coloured potatoes within water which is highly salted & to cook these potatoes I simply pour these out in to a saucepan with the salted water and then warm them through on the hob for around 6 or 7 minutes just to make sure they are well cooked ...  Read the complete review

Not the ideal way to buy potatoes but at least these are new potatoes and having a tin in stock does come in handy for making soups etc. They are in essence a canned vegetable convenience food. They are also very cheap at 29p per can and for many will represent a good value buy. The potatoes are of various sizes and come stuffed in a green and white 345g can (rather than the illustrated red and white one) with only salt water for company. The can is of the ring pull design which is a blessing, making the can easy to open and quite unusual on a cheaper brand of canned food. Once opened and poured into a bowl the potatoes appear a uniform off-white although I ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Asda Smartprice New Potatoes In Salted Water: Cheap And Good Quality, Perfect For Potato Salad (300 words)

I sometimes use tinned potatoes when I am making a stew, or a casserole because it's fast and easy to do. Previously I have been buying branded ones, believing that I was getting better quality. However, when I saw these for 22p at Asda, I decided to give them a try. The green and white can is 345g and is full to the top with potatoes and covered in salt water. The ring pull on the top of the can makes it easy to open. The first thing I noticed when I opened these was a brown mark on a potato at the top of the can. This is quite likely to put me off altogether when it comes to cheap food, but I decided to investigate further before I made my mind ...  Read the complete review
