Advantages: Very cheap, tastes ok

Disadvantages: Not great really

I have one hour today between two of my classes, so just enough time to grab a quick lunch and write a cheeky short review too. I had a quick rummage through my cupboards for something that would be quick to make yet enough to fill me up, and came across this tin of Asda Smartprice Ravioli. I bought this absolutely ages ago, as it was cheap and looked like an easy meal, but haven't gotten around to eating it until now as I've never really been in the mood for it. I decided, however, that today is the day, and so this ravioli is now my lunch and the subject of this review.

This tin costs 20p and contains 400g of beef ravioli in a tomato sauce. It can be cooked on the hob or in the microwave, and either way only takes a few minutes. I personally chose the microwave as I'm lazy and can't be bothered to wash a pan up afterwards. Normally food tastes better if you cook it on the hob, but I didn't think that it would matter too much for something as simple as this.

I am glad to say that this ravioli doesn't actually taste too bad. The pasta is fine, and the tomato sauce is pretty nice, and although when I cut into a ravioli the centre looks like it's barely seen any beef in its life, it doesn't taste bad really, though it could be better.. A look on the tin tells me that this food only contains 2.5% beef, which explains the low price, but to be honest I would rather pay a little bit more for a bit higher quality meat content.

In conclusion, this ravioli in a can isn't bad really, and for the price of 20p for a satisfying meal it's amazing value too. I probably will buy this again for a cheap lunch every now and then, though as soon as my budget is a bit higher I don't think I'll be going back to this ravioli. It doesn't taste particularly healthy, despite being in a tomato sauce, so it really will be only for the occasional quick lunch as part of a diet that is much healthier overall. Having said that, since this meal only contains 300 calories, it is healthy in the way that it could help you to lose weight as part of a calorie controlled diet.

Summary: A 20p meal from Asda

That beef content figure is shocking!
