Advantages: Cheap

Disadvantages: A bit hard sometimes

I have been using this margarine since the day I left my family home and embarked on the emotional roller coaster ride that my hubby and I have experienced since being married. I don't see the point in paying over the odds for a product that barely gets noticed in day to life and this is one of them.

This spread is one of the Smartprice ranges that Asda have on offer in store and it costs around 30p for a 500g tub. It is a reduced fat spread which contains 48% vegetable fats and no hydrogenated fat.

I am not one of those people that is fussy about what they use to butter their bread with so this product suits me down to the ground. At the end of the day margarine is margarine and that's as far as it goes for me so I would never pay double or three times the price for a named brand product which does exactly the same thing.

The tub is filled generously to the very top and when you peel of the lid, you will find that some of the marg is stuck to it. It's a nice pale yellow in colour and smells very sweet and appealing.

After examining the tub for the purposes of this product, I have come across a small bit of writing that says this product is not suitable for baking with. I'm not sure why this is but I use it to bake with nearly every day and have never had any problems with it. It tastes great in my homemade cheese sauce and the buns and cakes I make are moist and spongy despite this being the cheapest spread on the shelf.

The only downside to this margarine is that it can have a tendancy to be a little hard on occasions. I am not sure if I have my fridge too high which results in it being a little hard. If I remember then I leave it out on the side so that it can soften a bit before I make up sandwiches or my hubby will complain that I have broken the bread whilst spreading.

This product is suitable for freezing but it must beconsumed within one month. It has around a three month 'best before' date which is quite a long time. I always use mine up before that.

Over all I would definately recommend this product if yu are like me and don't mind what you cook with. It's versatile and tasty and most of all it's cheap but not nasty.

Summary: A great economy buy.
